Introduction
Adhesives can be defined as material used for gluing that flows at the time of application. In geometry, the surface is a two-dimensional geometric figure that delimits the space filled with matter, that is, surface in the theoretical sense. In mechanics, the surface is defined as the edge of a material body that can be analyzed at the molecular, micro, and macro scale. There are certain theories of adhesion based on surface chemical phenomena. In some special cases, either pure adsorption or electrical or diffusive attractive forces are found at an adhesive-bonded interface. You can learn more here about this or electronics assembly adhesives.
The material should have the following properties to behave like an adhesive
It must wet the surfaces
It must stick to the surfaces
It must develop strength
It has to stay stable
Types of adhesive raw materials
There are three types of raw materials
Naturally
semi-synthetic
Inorganic
Types of adhesives
There are basically two types of adhesives: resin-based and rubber-based. The main application areas of the product are furniture, construction, paint and stationery.
Between the two types, there are different categories of adhesives sold in the market. These include:
• Natural adhesives
• Synthetic adhesives
• Drying of adhesives
• Contact Adhesive
• Hot glue
• Reactive adhesives
• Pressure sensitive adhesive
Used
Adhesives can be used to create adhesive bonds, seal, apply protective or decorative coatings (paint or varnish), printing, furniture, construction, stationery, and others.
Surface preparation techniques for adhesives
• Chromic acid etching
• Sulfuric acid anodizing and “hard” anodizing
• Anodizing with phosphoric acid
• Anodizing with chromic acid
Market structure
In the adhesives business, global players have built up new capacities in India in recent years. As tariffs approach Asian levels, competition from imports and local low-cost suppliers will continue to increase. The market size of all kinds of adhesives is very large and growing. Around 45% of this is accounted for by the premium products. In quantitative terms, the overall market size is growing by 11% annually.
Jubilant Organosys established a plant to manufacture vinyl acetate monomer (VAM) and introduced its synthetic wood adhesive Vamicol in 1989. Vamicol has seen growth of 12-15% and has almost 15,000 points of sale across the country.
